Entry requirements

A relevant honours degree, 2:2 or above.

If English is not your first language, you must have an IELTS score of 6.5, with no element below 6.0. (Other English language qualifications are also accepted. Please contact admissions for further information).

Consideration will be given to applicants with lower grade in qualifications (e.g. a 3rd class degree or non-honours degree) who have a relevant range of post study professional experience. Professional experience will be considered by the programme leader in conjunction with the quality office on an individual basis.

Course fees

The tuition fee for academic year 2026/27 is: £5,125. Tuition fees for courses starting April to May 2026, fall within the 2025/26 academic cycle.

Research Skills for Practitioners
20 Credits (Compulsory)

This module offers an advanced exploration of research methodologies, both qualitative and quantitative, tailored for leadership in sport and physical activity. Building upon prior knowledge and experience, students will critically engage with current practices, scholarship, and research in the field. Emphasising critical evaluation of evidence, ethical research practices, and engagement with open science principles, the module enables students to understand, critique and develop robust, reproducible, and impactful research. This module examines contemporary topics like the replication crisis and the role of artificial intelligence in research, fostering a critical awareness of current issues and developments.

Developing Groups in Sport & Physical Activity
20 Credits (Compulsory)

This module enhances your understanding of creating and sustaining high-performing teams. This module explores the principles and practices needed to structure long-term development for individuals and groups within sports and physical contexts – not exclusively sports teams. You will critically examine the leadership process and methods that drive high performance. A specific focus is applied to aligning overall strategy and techniques to the unique culture and environment of each group. By the end, you will be equipped to foster a positive, productive climate that supports continuous growth and excellence in diverse sport and physical activity settings.

Independent Project
60 Credits (Compulsory)

The independent project is the culmination of the Masters course. The module builds on prior learning and offers you the opportunity to develop their skills, knowledge, and understanding further through an independent project. Projects can reflect a traditional research dissertation or an evaluation of an industry-based project. The project is regarded as an important exercise for developing your abilities to formulate appropriate research design and procedures, to collect and present information in appropriate and meaningful ways, to conduct a critical analysis of relevant literature, and to demonstrate your understanding and application of theoretical principles. The independent project at Masters level is expected to make a meaningful and original contribution to literature.
